She was a hot tomato, and things were going great.

“I’ll come visit you at your office,” she purred into the phone.

“Uh,” he stammered, thinking quickly, “how’s’about I meet you over at the Empire State instead.”

“Why? Are you embarrassed to be seen with me?”

How could he tell her his office was in the Budd-Tugley building, perhaps the ugliest building on 14th Avenue? His image would be shattered when she walked past the pitted marble slab walls, through the ugly wooden double doors and into the sterile lobby.

“I, uh, I’ll call you later...”

So much that for romance.
