POOLSIDE RAILS

Where Paper Crafting and  Model Railroading Collide

The Ghost House Paper Kit

Halloween’s just around the corner.  And this eerie paper kit comes with a real surprise!

Most paper kits for download are pretty much WSIWYG – what you see is what you get. But the Ghost House from Raven’s Blight is different: it comes with a secret chamber underneath the finished model.

When you visit the site, be sure to click on the link at the bottom labeled “Read the tragic and mysterious history of the Ghost House.” It’s an amusing tale, although we believe it to be somewhat fictional in detail.

The House itself is a handsome, if chilling, kit. The weatherbeaten walls feature missing clapboard with exposed studs. The many railings around the various porches are nicely rendered with black spaces between the uprights. Best of all, the house comes with a green grass yard in which various things appear semi-buried, and that is surrounded by a brick and wrought-iron fence. The fence is double-sided so that the inside is as nicely battered and desolate looking as the outside.

It is the inclusion of that green grass yard that accommodates the “secret chamber” – a little box that sits underneath the house. Invisible when the house is in the yard, you could easily hide candy or keys or skeleton parts in it during your Halloween party.

The Ghost House comes with a 10 page PDF of instructions. They’re nicely written with a distinctly humorous edge and are accompanied by 33 clear photographs of the assembly process.

Raven’s Blight is a site by Ray O’Bannon dedicated to a fictitious town of the same name. There are several paper models and toys for free download, including masks, a graveyard, and an interesting looking vehicle called “The Battle Hearse.”  There’s another interesting haunted house called “The Cliff House” and a Haunted House Pop-Up Card that might be just the thing for… well, perhaps not for Christmas.

You can find the link to Ray O’Bannon’s Raven’s Blight at PaperTecture.Org or by going directly to RavensBlight.Com.
